Desitin is not toothpaste

I was reminded of what sleepless nights are like this past weekend when Keaton was sick. I think he was preparing me for the loads of sleepless fun the new baby is going to be since I got so spoiled in the last year and actually got stretches of sleep at a time - sometimes 8 hours even!!

He had a bout of diarrhea and vomiting that kept me running to his room every 30-40 minutes. Lots of diaper changes (threw them on him to save the pjs), potty breaks and sheets/stuffed animals thrown into the washer later, I got to see the sun rise. Unfortunately I had to stay up and get Brody ready and off to school while Keaton slumbered finally. Once Brody was out the door I thought I had a few minutes to rest my head, but Keaton had different ideas and was up for the day (how do they do it on such little sleep???)

I groggily stayed awake to make him breakfast, only for him to make a mad dash to the bathroom shortly after...such as my day went - poor little guy. I decided to at least drag myself to the shower hoping it would keep me awake and then brush my teeth to feel some sort of human. This is where I realized that I don't do "no sleep" well. Throughout the night, Keaton's poor little bottom started looking like that of a baboon's bright red one, so I pulled out the Desitin Ointment and liberally applied it to keep him comfortable. I, at some point during the night, laid the tube on the bathroom counter next to my toothpaste...you can imagine the rest, right? Yep, the next morning as I held my eyes open with toothpicks I reached for my toothbrush and grabbed what I thought was the tube of toothpaste. In my haze, I grabbed the Desitin and applied to to my toothbrush, ran it under some water, and somehow despite the distinct difference in smell between it and minty toothpaste didn't notice it and started to brush my teeth. I was definitely awake after that rude awakening (I do not recommend Desitin flavor...)

Luckily, Keaton was better by the end of the evening and I thought I would slip off to dreamland peacefully, but now I had developed a stuffy nose that woke me up many times through the night struggling to breathe. God has a funny way of preparing us for the future and I think he is just making sure I am ready to start the baby game again. :)
