Packing on the Pounds

So it's been 6 weeks since I have forgone the South Beach Diet in order to give the baby the maximum amount of nutrients and also so I could indulge in the sinfully delicious foods I had been depriving myself of all in the name of a small sized jean. It had been ages since a potato of any form or a white piece of bread had crossed my mouth and eons since any form of real sugar made it to my belly. "No more" shouted my cravings and I eagerly dove into a bag of potato chips followed by a peanut butter cookie.

Everything tasted so wonderful, the blizzard from Dairy Queen, the Whopper Jr. from Burger King and the Pizza crust from Papa Johns. This insane behavior continued for about 4 weeks - eating non-healthy food to feed my emotional needs. I love to eat when I am feeling "unbalanced" and boy, with pregnancy hormones in full effect I was more unbalanced than a teeter-totter session between and elephant and a flea!

Luckily, the baby decided after about a month that all the sweets were enough (one more reason I think it's a boy) and let me know that it was time to get back into healthy eating. Now, anytime that I eat something sweet I get nauseous. Whew - good, because I have gained 7 lbs in 6 weeks (the norm for the first trimester is 2-5lbs). Don't get me wrong, I won't be passing up the red velvet cupcakes with cream cheese frosting that a coworker brings in, but I also won't be heading to Applebee's for a Blondie daily either. It's all about moderation. I have come to terms that I get huge during pregnancy and embrace it! I will be wearing tight shirts to show off that baby bump 'til the end. I will also rest in the fact that I have lost the weight twice before and have gotten to pre-baby weight (if not smaller) each time...only problem is that every time I do the South Beach diet I get pregnant...hmmmm.
